I’m a born storyteller and artist in the process of making a beautiful life. Whether I’m creating sculptures, paintings, or art-books, I’m always discovering new ways of telling my story. My artwork reflects my background in interior design and theater, and is characterized by a love of process, a strong sense of color, harmonious designs, playfulness, and attention to details that speak of handmade craft.

Sewing and painting fabrics as the creative means to produce visual narratives for two artwork commissions. While the artworks created for Camp K-9 of Marin celebrate the special relationship between man and his canine best friend, the artworks for OPD in San Francisco speak of community and prosperity.

Participating in fundraisers that are special to me. I created “The Courage To Be A Tree” from all recycled materials for the Straub Environmental Center. And “The Universe Conspires” was made for “Art of Communication” at the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery. Both events were held in Salem, Oregon.

Organizing a mail-art group project inspired by the “Exquisite Corpse” game of the Surrealists in the 20’s. A talented group of international artists were the players required to doodle in succession on a little paper scroll set inside a small box. On the “Art In Communication” blog you'll find the "Exquisite Doodle" Artist Project archive.

©2008 Alex Mitchell, LOVE STORY, Wood and Mixed Media Pedestal Sculpture
Creating the show “El Happy Mundo” about belonging and lost innocence, about picture-perfectness and lurking fears. The ingenuousness of the beautiful fabric "Kitties" inhabiting "La-La Land" was contrasted by humorous mixed media sculptures dealing with our very human fears of not belonging and not having enough.
Hope to see you around!
